Jive Sound offers a wide array of repair and upgrade services to help out with many facets of your bass. Here's a sample of what kind of repairs we do: - Set up (set intonation, relief, action) - General cleaning and minor finish repair - Fretwork (filing sharp fret edges, levelling high frets, fret polishing/crowing) - Electronics repair for pickups, preamps, controls, jack, etc. - Replace hardware such as briges and tuners - Replace or alter string nut - Replace amplifier speakers - Minor amp repair Through a partnership with a local tech, Jive Sound has access to a PLEK machine. This computer controlled device scans a guitar under actual playing conditions, strung and tuned to pitch. The PLEK identifies precisely what needs to be done for perfect fretwork and delivers perfect results every time. Contact us for more details. Jive Sound can also upgrade your bass as well. Our tech has 20 years of experience in repairing guitars and basses. You can be confident in a job well done, because we wouldn't have it any other way. We have quick turnaround times, and reasonable prices. Most standard setups can be done while you wait. Pricing Schedule (not including parts) - Set Ups for 4 string bass cost $40. There is a $5 charge for each additional string. Price doesn't include strings, but there is a $5 dollar discount if you purchase the strings at Jive Sound. A standard set up includes polishing the bass, adjusting the truss rod for relief, adjusting the bridge saddles to get the action you desire, conditioning the fretboard, and setting the intonation against a strobe tuner. If the neck angle needs to be adjusted with a shim, there is an additional $10 charge. - Filing fret edges cost $40 for a maple fingerboard, $75 for all other fingerboards. - Pickup replacement is $50 if there is no woodwork involved. - Preamp installation is $60-$75 depending on the preamp, and no woodwork is involved. - Bridge replacement is $30 if the replacement bridge is a retrofit, and no additional woodworking is involved. - Nut replacement is $30. If a custom nut needs to be carved, the cost is $50 and upwards depending on the nut material and number of strings. Alteration of an existing nut is $25, with bench rates of $35 per hour after the first hour. - Tuner installation is $50 if the replacements retrofit, and no additional woodworking is involved. - Electronics repair is done at a rate of $45 per hour of bench time. Providing us with schematics, diagrams, and any other information is always helpful. - Any other custom repair work is done at a rate of $45 per hour of bench time. This includes custom electronics, fretwork, woodwork, and amp repairs. - Major finishwork, major woodwork, major fretwork and complex amp repair are outsourced. Rates depend on vendor costs.
