Jive Sound now offers bass lessons!

We are pleased to announce that we offer expert bass education at Jive Sound. Jive Sound not only has the best in bass gear, but also the best in bass education. We have state of the art facilities and expert instructors to inspire you and improve your bass playing skills. Whether you are a complete beginner, or a seasoned player looking to take your playing to a new level, we can help. Our expert teachers are working professionals who will share their real world experience in the stage and studio with you. Not only are they bass virtuosos, but expert instructors as well. Take your playing a step further at Jive Sound.

Lessons are currently being offered on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Slots are available, and if additional demand requires it, we can add additional days.
The cost is $50 for a half hour lesson from our expert teachers.

We will also be having seminars and clinics throughout the year, so check the website to see what's going on.

We also offer lessons in other instruments such as drums, guitar, keyboards, winds and brass. As a former educator myself, I believe in education. We will assist you or your child in unlocking their musical potential with expert pedagogy, sound cirriculum, and hands-on, friendly advice. We are happy to work with home school families to integrate music into their home-school cirriculum.

Yusef Chisholm
A native of Washington, DC, Yusef Chisholm is one of the most innovative and stylistic bassists in traditional and contemporary music.  After receiving his BA and Associates degrees in 1988, Yusef began teaching in the District of Columbia Public Schools System as an Instrumental Music Instructor. Yusef currently is the Instrumental Music Teacher at Hardy Middle School.

In 1995, Yusef formed Common Knowledge, a contemporary jazz ensemble. He has been a member of Collaboration, a Washington-based jazz group of music educators since 1986. The band was featured in The Washington Post as a premiere Metropolitan jazz band.  Yusef has also performed at The John F. Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall, The Warner Theater, The Lincoln Theater, BET's Jazz Central, The Studio Theater, The Houston Arena, The MCI Center (Grand Opening), and other high profile venues.

Yusef Chisholm has shared the stage, accompanying such artists as Oleta Adams, Eryka Badu, Angela Bofill, Jerry Butler, Isaac Hayes, Freddie Jackson, Marcus Johnson, Ben E. King, Debbie Kirkland, Dionne Warwick, Vesta Williams, Vicki Winans, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Davey Yarborough, and has opened for countless others.  He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference and the International Association for Jazz Education. Doug Crowley
What can I say about Doug? Well, let me begin by saying he is one hulluva bass player. You have to be when you've been Chuck Brown's bassist for the last 3 years. Doug has toured and recorded worldwide with DC Go-Go legend Chuck Brown. Doug has also played with the bands Subtle Thoughts, Spur of the Moment, Legacy, and Mesa. He is currently continuing his education at University of District of Columbia in Jazz Studies.

Doug Crowley has strong experience with Gospel music, having played with Vicki Winans, Ronald Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Daryl Coley, Yolanda Adams, Steve Lawrence, Toby Palmer, the BL&S Singers, and countless others. Doug is currently the bassist for Eulah Baptist Church.

Doug Crowley will share with you his knowledge of Jazz, Funk, Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop and more. His instruction includes technique that not only improves your playing, but your tone. He's a groove focused instructor that will teach you real-world skills.
