This Fall, I got to visit my hometown of Chicago and stop by the Lakland factory. Just outside of the Loop, and in one of the oldest manufactiring centers in Chicago is Lakland. I got to see the work that goes into every bass, including the Skylines. I also saw pickups being wound, the PLEK machine which does perfect fretwork, some interesting prototypes, and interesting employees. I was very pleased to find that they use local vendors for electronics, tools, etc. whenever possible.
